Holyport is a large village in the Parish of Bray in East Berkshire and the cricket club has been part of the local life since at least 1844. Since 2000, we have run four adult sides, two on Saturday now playing in the Morrant Chiltern League and two playing friendlies on Sundays. We also cater for colts with training and matches organised for boys and girls aged 9 upwards.
2009 will be our sixth season in the Chiltern League, and will be a season for rebuilding for the first XI having been relegated from the first division after 4 years of top half finishes. Under the leadership of new captain Andrew Rolls we hope to recover our form and bounce straight back to the top division. The second XI finished third by just one point after a nail-biting final game victory against the second place team who just scraped enough points to stay above us. Winners Penn & Tylers set the standard that we aspire to this season, they finished almost 80 points ahead, having heavily beaten us in both fixtures last season. The Sunday first XI captain, Mark Taylor, has a tough task to improve on his almost all conquering debut season in 2008 but the more gentle pace of the Sunday second XI will we hope, provide nurture for some up and coming colts and provide some competition for places in that winning side.
The club plays in the Berkshire Indoor League for the winter season and a settled team won the first division in March 2009, thus ensuring an immediate return to the much higher standard of the premier division for the 2009-10 season which will be starting in October.
For fun and to add a bit of internal competition we also run an internal fantasy league, details are posted on the fantasy league page of this site. On the social side, we also hold a race night in June, a six-a-side competition in August, a keenly contested golf day at the end of the season and an annual dinner and prize giving in October.
For those of you who have visited us here in previous years you will no doubt have noticed the vast improvement in this site for which the club is most grateful to Siva and Mark for all the time an effort they have put in. I hope all the league players who visit us to get all the results and tables will appreciate the new look results page as it gradually fills with data.
The summer 2009 season starts on 18th April - see the fixtures page for details. We are always on the lookout for new members, all are welcome, players of any age and standard, social members and especially anyone who wishes to umpire!
