Holyport CC
Welcome to Holyport Cricket Club, please read on for a quick summary of our club and its activities.
Holyport is a large village in the Parish of Bray in East Berkshire and the cricket club has been part of the local life since at least 1844. Since 2000, we have run four adult sides, two on Saturday now playing in the Morrant Chiltern League and two playing friendlies on Sundays. We also have Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s colts sides.
2008 will be our fifth season in the Chiltern League, and we have to try to improve on last season's records. The first XI finished third, in the process handling the title to Taplow by one point by beating long time runaway leaders Penn & Tylers Green on the last game of the season thanks to a superb hundred by Andrew Rolls and 5 wickets from Imran Butt. Unfortunately the second XI finished runners up to Penn & Tylers after leading for much of the season thanks to a last day defeat by just 6 runs, but hey, if you had offered us 2nd place at the start of the season after promotion in 2006 we would have snapped your hand off especially as the first time we played in the top division we went straight back down!
The club plays in the Berkshire Indoor League for the winter season and in 2007-08 are struggling a little, being back in the premier division for the first time in several years.
For fun and to add a bit of internal competition we also run an internal fantasy league, details are posted on the fantasy league page of this site. On the social side, we also hold a race night in June, a six a side competition in August, a keenly contested golf day at the end of the season and an annual dinner and prize giving in October.
The summer 2008 season starts towards the end of April - see the fixtures page for details. We are always on the lookout for new members, all are welcome, players of any age and standard, social members and especially anyone who wishes to umpire!
